SDTTS 2017 Tortoise Rehabilitation and Placement Program
The San Diego Turtle and Tortoise Society (SDTTS) is seeking agrant to support our 2017 Tortoise Rescue, Rehabilitation, Placement and Education Program. The focus of this program is conservation of the desert tortoise (Gopherus agassizii), federally listed in the United States under the Endangered Species Act as a threatened species. Our program to protect the native desert tortoise focuses on educating the general public about the tortoise and managing a captive population that will not threaten native populations.
For over 40 years, the SDTTS has been actively rescuing, rehabilitating and adopting out hundreds of turtles and tortoises. SDTTS is one of the largest rescue societies of its kind in the United States with over 500 current members. The Society is all-volunteer, enjoys strong corporate support, and has a dedicated leadership team. SDTTS publications are recognized for having sound and thorough care information. Monthly meetings at Balboa Park are informative and friendly, and feature local veterinarians, care consultants, and nationally known specialists. Every year the Society presents educational exhibits at many local events, and each summer hosts the San Diego Turtle and Tortoise Show in Balboa Park. SDTTS is a 501(c)3 non-profit.
